Being an uncle prepared me for fatherhood, it taught me the fundamentals of raising young men in our environments, where we come from.
Josh, my sister Jessica youngest boy, the one you see holding the book in the picture above, may not even realize that he is the photographer of the some of the pics in Book of Rhymes.
I was taking him to school one morning and before we got in the car I told him “Get this pic real quick for me nephew”, the rest is history. Josh you might need to consider photography youngin. I love for them to get exposure at young age, when the world catch on to Book of Rhymes, they are going see Josh’s photography on the back cover and the first few pages.
Now I’m witnessing my nephew Jay prepare to go to Africa, that’s huge for him. Jaylon is a learner, he never subjects to his environment, he is a true survivor. Most importantly he is humble and has a very promising future. Jay turned sports down to seek more knowledge, that’s real. Not to mention he was starting corner on an team that went to state championships back to back. Jaylon could’ve easily went D1 but instead he decided to get D1 knowledge, and people should respect kids like Jay who turns sports down to get real education to help them build for their future. 20% of all my book sales is going to Jaylon trip to Africa.
G and Slade are like one in the same, Slade just lighter version of his big bruh; In fact, I used to look at G like a lighter version of Trent, his older brother, TK suns.
I love all my nieces and nephews they all mean the world to me, I could go on and on about each of them but truth be told it’s too many of yall, I can’t keep up. I have to thank them for molding me into the father that I am becoming I couldn’t be an uncle without them. I can’t want for y’all to see your cousin Nasir.
I’m beginning to understand the role fathers has on a child’s life, I recently seen a Facebook post about how much it means for parents to be a child’s sports game. And it makes you think about how Kobe was with his daughter. The day he died, which happened to be on my birthday, Kobe was taking his daughter to her game. That shows his dedication as a father. Things should not be valued by money but by principles.
Being a father is my number one principle and instilling a legacy for my child.
To my son, I love you, and I can’t wait to show you the world.
