Im writing this article to document some divine connects of the two cities in my brother’s book 1975
My Brother, Carlos A. Jones book 1975 adds two new cities to the Charles Dickens Classic A Tale of Two Cities, which in fact has an 1975 edition. in his novel the two cities are: Winston-Salem, North Carolina (The Tre Fo) my hometown and his hometown, Louisville, Kentucky. The etymology for Charles it comes from Carlos. ie Charles Martel was called Carlous Martelus. This is where Carolingian derive their root not a particular person but a status if you will (I AM).
According to this article on the Wharf Master and Founder of the one my most favorite Bourbons— the Welshman, Evan Williams.
Louisville is located at the Falls of the Ohio River, was a major port for river traffic. Boats were unloaded above the Falls and the freight, carried over land, was then reloaded on boats below the Falls to be shipped to New Orleans.
Winston-Salem is a major port city as well,(at one point 8th largest in North Amerique) for one it sits on the crossing ford in the Yadkin River along the Great Wagon Road, therefore before modern bridges, the people had to cross through the northwest region in the Carolingian Piedmont called Bethabara, Hebrew for the house of Passage. What is now known as Winston-Salem therefore was a cultural center for the indigenous Tribes. Also there was Plank Road that went from Bethania all the way to Fayetteville. Therefore a lot of traffic always passed through that region.
Actress Pam Grier, is actually a native of Winston-Salem born in 1949; Grier starred in the 1975 film Sheba, Baby. In this set of tapestry Grier plays a Chi Town Private Investigator, Sheba Shayne, who travels back to her hometown (in the film) of Louisville, Kentucky to seek revenge of her father after his business was mobbed by thugs who was looking to force a sale.
This film is staged in Louisville and has Great visuals of the city during that time period which was filmed around the time author Carlos Jones was born, in Louisville in fact it released just 13 days after he was born, and four days after the mother of our Publishing House Darrell Louise Jones Slade, turned 24, who is also a native of Louisville, Kentucky and was living there at the time.
In Carlos book 1975, he states that him and his mother moved to Pam Grier’s hometown, Winston-Salem from Louisville in 1982. What drove them there was, Carlos’ grandmother Dorothy Jordan who worked at Winston-Salem Tobacco company, Brown and Williamson the Louisville branch shut down, their employees where given the option to relocate. When she relocated her Daughter Darrell moved year after her to be closer to her momma. Miss Jordan as her community called her made her transition this year on 7 Jul, 2025. Her legacy is well documented in her grandsons’ novel which she loved and had multiple copies in her extensive library.
The theory is that Carlos’ family is a branch that originates from the Piedmont Region of the Carolinas and went into what is known the Louisville area in prehistoric times and has been there every since. More Research on this though. If this true Dorothy would have been the pioneer to bring the tribe back home.
The next time you watch Sheba, Baby, consider getting a copy of 1975 to go on your coffee table.

1975– a nontraditional history book.
Author Carlos Jones’ family descends from one of Louisville’s most prominent indigenous communities, Smoke town. The family had lived there on record since 1910. There are even streets in Smoketown such as, Breckenridge street, that share the same sur name of some of his family lineage who lived in Smoketown. Ie Sallie and Lucy Breckenridge Jones who are featured in this novel.
In 1918 Lucy established a covenant with his royal Majesty William Henry Jones II, these are the great great grandparents of the author, both where noble in their own right, they both had seven children together. William is recognized as the first Bourbon Electrician in the Kentucky Commonwealth. Both are buried in Louisville’s historic Eastern Cemetery.
Lucy was of Cherokee- Irish descent and William was Lakota Sioux Indian and his grandfather Tincup migrated from the Blackhills in South Dakota during the time that buffalo were being excavated by the United States Government to force the indigenous people to depend on them for their food supply. Carlos’ late grandmother Dorothy Jordan, the grand daughter of William and Lucy, was the first from the family to relocate to North Carolina, she was the fifth Bourbon to work at Brown &Williamson . When the branch she worked at in Louisville closed she opted to go to Carolina; and settled in piedmont Triad another historical city now known as Winston-Salem; Legend holds that the Lakota Sioux originate from this region of the Saura Town Valley Therefore Carlos family could have unknowing returned their original homelands.
The author opens up in 1975 about how him and his mother migrated from Louisville in 1982 to be closer to their matriarch and how mother Darrell consolidated her hair foundation , Darrell’s Salon of Beauty, in the Bethabara, within the first five years of them relocating to the area, the same territory, the Moravians settled in 1753 on Cherokee lands.
Darrell was already notable in Louisville she won hair completions, had legendary clients Louisvillian Darrell Griffin. Perhaps her passion for cosmetology and starting her own salon is rooted from Smoketown which during its prime was said to have a Hair Salon on his block. Or maybe from her Irish great great grandfather Christopher Columbus, the father of Lucy, who during his time period had a barbershop on Walnut Street in Louisville Chestnut street today. Whatever the cause she was extremely successful her most notable clients were Maya Angelou and Sylvia Hamlin.
