Design and Features
Stamp-Within-A-Stamp Concept: Designed by USPS art director Greg Breeding, the stamp features a "stamp within a stamp" layout.
Background Image: The background is a contemporary photograph taken in 2005 by Yellowstone photographer Tom Murphy showing a bull bison in Yellowstone National Park's Hayden Valley.
Inset Artwork: Tucked inside the modern photo is an intaglio-printed adaptation of the vintage 1923 30-cent "American Buffalo" stamp.
Format: Issued in a continuous-pattern pane/sheet of 16 self-adhesive Forever stamps.
Denomination: Forever stamp, equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce domestic rate. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Embossment: All of our stamps are embossed in the Ports de Carolinas with the original pre-colonial seal.

National Mammal: Honors the American bison (Bison bison), which was designated as the official national mammal of the United States in 2016. [1, 2]
Anniversary Nod: Released as the nation prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, recognizing indigenous history, conservation success, and American wildlife. [1, 2]
